AOWC: Doyle Family 9/3

Shane and Carey's Dossier is in country and has been submitted, they are traveling THIS WEEK!  This is such an exciting time for their family! Please join the Reece's Rainbow family in showing support for this family. You can make your tax deductible donations to their Family Sponsorship Page!

Shayne and Carey were only dating six weeks before they got engaged and were married the following year in 2001. Carey had a miscarriage in 2003 and was devastated. They were fortunate to have five children together all in rapid succession. Gannon (7) was born on Carey’s birthday and started what would become a mission to fill their life with many children. Cullen (6) and Cecelia (4) were the next to arrive. In 2009, they found out that the daughter they were expecting had Down syndrome. They knew that their lives were changing with the addition of a fourth child. Shayne and Carey were surprised that life got so much better when Stefina (aka: Stefi -2 ½) came into this world. Declan (3 months), is the newest addition.

Two years ago, Carey found Reece’s Rainbow through her online support community and has been hopeful to find the next Doyle. On December 23, 2011 Carey and Shayne were shopping with Carey’s mother, when they saw another adoptive couple with two small boys from the Ukraine in their cart. Carey stopped in her tracks and initiated what would be a life changing conversation in the middle of a Sam’s Club! Five days later, Carey couldn’t stop thinking about Kate. She logged

onto Reece’s Rainbow to look at the sweet girl realizing it was actually Kate’s birthday. The fact that she probably didn’t even know it was her birthday really upset Carey. She imagined the amazing life Kate would have being a Doyle. They weren’t expecting to be on this journey so soon after having a new baby but, they have come to realize that it’s not about them. It’s all about Kate! She has been in Carey’s heart for a very long time. With the addition of Kate & Dasha they can be certain that their next child will be just perfect!
The Doyle Family will be traveling this week.
They are $13,000 short of being fully funded.
As one we can help them bring their beautiful blessings home.

AOWC The Wetherington Family

Jason and Stephanie's Dossier is in country and has been submitted, they should be traveling within the next five weeks. This is such an exciting time for their family! Please join the Reece's Rainbow family in showing support for this family. You can make your tax deductible donations to their Family Sponsorship Page or check out their Giveaway which includes 3 vacations up for grabs!

Jason and Stephanie have been married for almost 13 years. Together they have 3 children, 8 year old Koah, 4 year old Abigail, and 18 month old Isaac (now in heaven). Their youngest son was diagnosed in utero with a severe heart defect, kidney issues, and brain issues. He was not expected to make it to delivery. The doctors recommended abortion, but that was NEVER an option. They loved this baby no matter what. The doctor did not want to monitor the baby’s heart during labor and even asked Stephanie if she was sure she wanted to have a c-section to save a baby that was incompatible with life. But by the grace of God, he not only made it to delivery, but lived almost 19 incredible months. His kidney issues and brain issues were not nearly as bad as the doctors had thought. He underwent 3 open heart surgeries, g-j tube placement, tracheostomy, and emergency abdominal surgery, among many other procedures. He died 5 days after having emergency abdominal surgery while admitted at Children’s Hospital Boston in the cardiac ICU. He died in his mother’s arms with his daddy right beside him while his mommy was telling him about heaven and how beautiful it was and how God was going to take care of him now, but that she would see him again one day. In his short time here on this earth, Isaac touched more lives than most healthy grown men do in their lifetime. God used him to save his big brother Koah’s life. Because of Isaac, the other 2 children had their hearts checked, and Koah then had heart surgery a few weeks later. At one time, this family had 2 sons in the cardiac ICU. Not only did Isaac save his brother’s life, but he changed his family’s hearts as well. Stephanie had always had a special place in her heart for special needs children, but now it was so much closer to her heart. Before their oldest was born, she was a Speech-Language Pathologist in the school system and had many students with special needs. She used to think that the parents of the special needs children were so blessed. Little did she know that one day she would have her own biological child with special needs, and what an INCREDIBLE BLESSING that would be. Stephanie enjoyed every second of taking care of Isaac (including managing his home vent, continuous feeds, trach care, g-j tube care, suctioning, meds 8x a day, injections twice a day). Because of Isaac, Koah and Abi have changed, as well. They are better, stronger, more loving kids The are very accepting of others’ differences, in fact, they usually don’t even notice. They loved taking care of their brother and can’t wait to add another child to the family. Stephanie and Jason had always talked about adoption even before they had children. But after having the incredible privilege and blessing of being Isaac’s mom, it was no surprise that she preferred and sought out a child with special needs. Recently, Stephanie was looking on Reece’s Rainbow. She was originally looking for a child with complex medical issues like she was used to, but when she saw Ryder, she knew he was the one that was meant to be their son. She then showed him to Jason and the other children. It was because of Isaac, that Ryder would be joining the family. So not only did Isaac save his big brother’s life, but he was now saving his little brother’s life. Isaac’s life reminds us that life is short, we are just passing through, this life is not about us, but about bringing glory to God every day just like Isaac did every day of his life. What better way to bring glory to God than to demonstrate God’s heart of adoption by providing unconditional love and a home to what the world might consider the unwanted. BUT the crazy thing is that we know we are the ones, not Ryder, who receives the biggest blessing in all of this. We know what AMAZING JOY special needs kids bring to a family. I think that we as a family need Ryder more than he needs us. Please pray for Ryder and for us as we travel through this adoption journey.

The Wetherington Family will be traveling next month.
They are $17,000 short of being fully funded.
As one we can help them bring their beautiful blessing home.

AOWC: The Powell's

Jim and Tisha received their travel dates today and are leaving in two short weeks to go meet their daughter. This is such an exciting time for their family! Please join the Reece's Rainbow family in showing support for this family. Please consider making a tax deductible donations to their Family Sponsorship Page to show your support.

Jim and Tisha Powell have been married for fifteen years and are the parents of eight beautiful girls.
God opened Jim’s heart to the possibility of adoption through the faithful, compassionate reporting of World Magazine. For years, it has featured families that have received children into their homes in the name of Christ. Having planted this seed, God brought it to fruition some months ago while Jim was reading the revised edition of John Piper’s Desiring God. Jim had picked up this book because the Spirit had convicted him about his underwhelming sense of joy, and he found much wisdom in its pages. But in the chapter on choosing suffering, Jim found what seemed to be a calling. Piper writes: “We do not choose suffering simply because we are told to, but because the One who tells us to describes it as the path to everlasting joy. He beckons us into the obedience of suffering . . . to manifest, in childlike faith, the infinite preciousness of His all-satisfying promises.” Joy grows out of faith. Love is pursuing your joy in the joy of others. We choose to suffer as a way of pursuing our joy in God. Confronted with these truths, Jim felt called to step out in faith, set aside his fleshly craving for convenience, and–by the grace of God–rescue a child in desperate need of love.
During a date night several days later, he told Tisha that he believed God wanted them to adopt a special-needs child. At that point in time, Tisha had been perusing blogs about adoption experiences for a few months. This led her to Reece’s Rainbow. Jim had marked all this simply as a passing interest. So her reply not only took him by surprise but also served as a pleasant confirmation of God’s call: ever since her teenage years, Tisha had envisioned herself caring for a special-needs child!
The Powells are a military family living in the Washington, D.C. area. Trusting in God’s grace, they are excited about bringing home a new baby girl. “Misty’s” expectant sisters are ready to shower her with love … and in a house full of girls there is more than enough love to go around!

The Powell's leave at the end of the month.
Their FSP needs to be at $8,000 to be fully funded.
As one we can help them to bring "Misty" home!

"David and Priscilla have been married for almost 6 years. They have two sons who are 8 years old and 2 years old. Special needs adoption has always been very close to their hearts for several reasons. David has always had a special place in his heart for people with downs syndrome, and has worked closely with March of Dimes for several years. Priscilla was adopted into a home when she was 9 days old where she became the baby sister to a sweet boy who was 6 years old and had severe developmental delays. Jeffrey, her big brother, was blind, deaf, tube fed, never learned to sit unassisted, or even roll over, but boy was he loved! She looked up to her brother, he was her hero. When Jeffrey was 10 years old he passed away, but his imprint has remained on his baby sister’s heart her whole life through. When Priscilla was 20 years old she got her CNA license and took a job at a home for adults with development disabilities where she and one other staff member were completely responsible for the care of 12 adult women with differing diagnoses, most being downs syndrome. She fell in love with each of her residents and during her 3 years of working with them side by side, she made a promise to herself that somehow, some way, she would dedicate her life to people with special needs. During this time she had met her future husband, had a baby, and settled into married life. Life threw them a curve ball that relocated them from Chicago, IL to Jackson, TN…talk about a culture shock! Shortly after this move they decided to have another baby, and things just weren’t working out. After a few years of trying, and several miscarriages, they thought maybe it was God’s will for them to adopt, and in the spring of 2009 they found Reece’s Rainbow. They fell in love with all of the precious faces, and decided that they would adopt, but as fate would have it, they found out 2 weeks later that they were pregnant! They’re son was born in December 2009 but they didn’t feel as though their family was complete yet. Reece’s Rainbow was still tugging at their heart strings. So, in November of 2011, shortly before their sons 2nd birthday, they decided to expand their family once again. "

"They immediately logged on to Reece’s Rainbow, and they immediately spotted the sweet angel that God had selected as their daughter. Sweet Xenia was born in March of 2009 (one month before David and Priscilla first learned about Reece’s Rainbow!) and to say that they fell in love with her would be an understatement. Their boys fell head over heels in love with her too! They prayed, they prayed A LOT for guidance, for wisdom, for courage, and strength! They came to the conclusion that God wanted them to adopt this precious angel, so they contacted Andrea, and the rest is history! They are currently awaiting their home study date and are so excited to be joining the Reece’s Rainbow family!"

The Morse's leave at the end of the month.
Their FSP needs to be at $17,100 to be fully funded.

AOWC

Michelle and David are traveling across the ocean in just 6 days to bring home two adorable toddlers with Down Syndrome. Such an exciting time for their family and yet there is still a large financial barrier in the way. They should be focusing solely on bringing home their babies but at the same time are struggling to overcome the burden of finances.

"David and Michelle met 13 years ago at military language school. They were studying different languages, but were in the same group that arrived from basic training. What started as a friendship soon developed a stronger bond and they married 5 months later! When Michelle got out of the military, they decided to start a family and have been blessed with 6 wonderful, active children. David is still active duty military"

In 2011 Michelle gave birth to their sixth child who sports designer genes (T21) and it opened their eyes and hearts to a whole new world.

"While it was difficult for them to imagine parenting a child with special needs before their youngest came along, he has truly opened their eyes to the beauty and worth of these precious children and they cannot imagine life without him! One evening Michelle saw a blog post containing a link to the conditions of mental institutions in Eastern Europe. As she watched the video, a wave of emotions washed over her and she also saw a link for Reece’s Rainbow. She spent the rest of the evening reading the stories of families who were stepping out in faith to not only donate but actually bring one or more of these beautiful children home. As she read these stories, she felt why couldn’t we do the same? David was not so sure. A few months passed with a lot of praying on both their parts as well as a lot of discussion. As Michelle scrolled through photo after photo of children waiting to find their families, she lingered on a few certain ones."
